Love Promise Stories from Fitzgerald Subaru Rockville

Subaru and Fitzgerald Subaru Rockville believe in making a positive impact on the communities in which we live and work. We uphold that belief through our Love Promise Community Commitment. Every month, we select inspiring stories from customers and partners from around our area who strive to support our collective commitment and feature them here.

Subaru of Rockville Loves Learning and Giving - The community T.

Subaru Loves Learning: Fitzgerald Subaru of Rockville Gives Back to the Community At Fitzgerald Subaru of Rockville, we believe that being part of a community means more than simply doing business here—it means being there for our neighbors when they need us most. We are proud to be deeply involved in the Rockville and Montgomery County communities and are always looking for meaningful ways to make a positive difference. With a new school year approaching, we knew there was no better time to lend a helping hand to local students and families. We wanted to make sure children in our community had the supplies they needed to start the school year feeling prepared, confident, and excited to learn. To help make that happen, Fitzgerald Subaru of Rockville purchased 200 fully stocked backpacks to distribute to children and families in our community. Each backpack was filled with essential school supplies, giving students a strong start as they headed back to the classroom. We spread the word about the event through local radio, television, and the internet, inviting families to join us at our dealership. When the big day arrived this past Saturday, our parking lot was filled with excitement, smiles, music, and, most importantly, members of our community coming together. It was more than simply handing out backpacks. It was an opportunity to connect with our neighbors, celebrate the beginning of a new school year, and remind local families that they have a community that cares about them. The response was incredible. Children were excited to receive their new backpacks, and parents appreciated the support as they prepared for another school year. Seeing the smiles on the faces of the families who attended reinforced why community involvement is so important to us. We believe that when children have the tools they need to succeed and feel secure and prepared, they are more eager and confident learners. Something as simple as a backpack filled with school supplies can help a child walk into the classroom ready to take on new challenges. At Fitzgerald Subaru of Rockville, we are grateful for the opportunity to give back to the people who make Rockville and Montgomery County such a special place to live. We are proud to be part of a community that comes together to support its children and families. This back-to-school event was a wonderful reminder that small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference. We look forward to continuing our commitment to the community and finding new ways to help our neighbors thrive—because at Fitzgerald Subaru of Rockville, we believe in the power of community and the importance of helping everyone move forward together.

Diaper Drive at Fitzgerald Subaru of Rockville Subaru Love Promise: Lifting Our Community - Grace R.

At Fitzgerald Subaru, we believe the Subaru Love Promise is more than a commitment—it is a promise to care for the communities where we live and work. This year, our employees came together with our community partner, Olney Terps Youth Football & Cheer, to put that promise into action by helping families across Montgomery County. Together, we supported the Upcounty Hub with a donation of more than 500 cases of diapers, an essential resource for families with young children who are already facing the challenges of food, housing, healthcare, and financial insecurity. The Upcounty Hub was founded in March 2020, at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, when Grace Rivera-Oven and her son, Marko Rivera-Oven, recognized the growing need for assistance in Upper Montgomery County. They began collecting donations in their garage. As the need grew, they partnered with BlackRock Center for the Arts and, with support from organizations including the David and Mikel Blair Foundation, Healthcare Initiative Foundation, and Nourish Now, began distributing food and essential supplies to local families. The Hub was founded on a powerful philosophy: people should be able to receive help without having to provide documentation proving that they are in need. By eliminating that barrier, the organization helps families maintain their privacy, dignity, and sense of worth. What began by serving just 23 families has grown into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that now serves approximately 1,500 families every week, distributing more than 30,000 pounds of food and essential items each week. The Hub provides drive-thru distributions, home deliveries for seniors and people facing transportation barriers, emergency assistance, case management, and connections to healthcare and other critical resources. The need continues because food insecurity is about more than having enough to eat. Families are also struggling with rent, healthcare, transportation, childcare, and other basic expenses. For parents of young children, diapers are one of those necessities. They are not optional, and the cost can become a significant burden for a family already trying to make ends meet. That is why our diaper donation was so meaningful. At Fitzgerald Subaru, we believe that "we rise by lifting others." We believe helping others is nutrition for the soul, and that a strong community is built when people come together to support one another. Our employees embraced that philosophy by helping provide something that families genuinely need. Our partnership with Olney Terps Youth Football & Cheer made the effort even more special. Fitzgerald Subaru proudly supports the organization with equipment and resources because we believe in investing in young people and the values that youth sports teach—teamwork, responsibility, perseverance, and community. Those same values extend beyond the playing field and into the neighborhoods we all share. The Upcounty Hub has grown into much more than a food distribution program. Through partnerships with Montgomery County government, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Montgomery County Food Council, healthcare organizations, and other nonprofits, it connects vulnerable residents with food, healthcare, housing assistance, rental assistance, SNAP resources, and other services. Its work demonstrates what is possible when a community comes together to meet people where they are. Our donation of more than 500 cases of diapers is one small part of that larger effort, but we know that small acts can have a lasting impact. Every package can mean one less expense for a parent. Every donation can help a family get through a difficult week. Every act of kindness reminds someone that their community sees them and cares about them. The story of the Upcounty Hub began when one family saw a need and decided to help. It grew because others joined them. That spirit is exactly what the Subaru Love Promise represents to us. Fitzgerald Subaru is proud to stand alongside the Upcounty Hub, Olney Terps Youth Football & Cheer, our employees, and our neighbors throughout Montgomery County. We are committed to continuing to give back, strengthen our community, and help make sure families do not have to face hardship alone. Because we believe in our community. We believe in helping our neighbors. And we believe that when we lift others, we all rise together.

Fitzgerald Subaru - Shannon M.

This year, Fitzgerald Subaru has partnered with Blood Cancer United® (formerly The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society) and Children's National Hospital through the Subaru Loves to Care initiative. This year, the partnership involved delivering 80 blankets, 50 patient care kits, and messages of hope to cancer patients. On Wednesday, July 1st, Fitzgerald Subaru personally delivered these items to patients in treatment. Fitzgerald Subaru also provided breakfast for hospital staff and displayed one of their cars in the main atrium. This year, Fitzgerald Subaru has also opted to support the Blood Cancer United Urgent Need Program - Pediatric, Adolescent and Young Adult Fund with a generous donation of $10,000, which will provide 20 blood cancer patients financial relief to help offset non-medical costs associated with treatment, such as transportation, food, housing, and utilities.

Standing With Coach Steve Richter - DAVID P.

The Subaru Love Promise is about being there for people when it matters most. Right now, one local family is facing an incredibly difficult time. Steve Richter—known to many as "Coach Steve" of the Olney Terps youth football league—has been diagnosed with end-stage systolic heart failure. In the coming days, he will undergo surgery to receive a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD), which will help his heart pump blood as he waits for a transplant. His recovery is expected to be long, with an extended hospital stay ahead. As his family prepares for what's next, they're doing their best to manage both the emotional weight of this diagnosis and the everyday needs of their children. When Fitzgerald Subaru of Rockville learned about their situation, they stepped in to help in meaningful, practical ways. The dealership provided the family with a vehicle to use for as long as they need, with gas fully covered—removing one major stress during an already overwhelming time. The General Manager and his wife have also been helping the family by taking their children to sports practices and events, making sure life can continue as normally as possible. In addition, the dealership provided thousands of dollars in gift cards to the family's favorite restaurants/stores. Coach Steve has spent years showing up for his players and his community. This is one small way the community is showing up for him. Please keep Steve and his family in your thoughts as they begin this next chapter.

Fitzgerald Subaru gifts comfort and confidence through Subaru Loves to Help! - Akshita A.

Fitzgerald Subaru joined more than 620+ retailers across the country in partnering with Operation Warm through the 2026 Subaru Loves to Help initiative. They provided comfort and confidence to children in need through the gift of brand-new coats/shoes/socks. Fitzgerald Subaru served children at Children's National Hospital, who were so thankful for the gift. They shared that: "We were fortunate to have so many patients and families come to the event - we distributed 185 coats and 150 shoes! There was one young girl in particular who stood out to me. As soon as she received her coat, shoes, and socks, she put everything on and looked so excited and proud to show off her new clothing! The amount of confidence and comfort it gave her was apparent, and the smile on her caregiver's face made it clear what a positive impact was made for everyone involved." - Children's National Hospital Thank you Fitzgerald Subaru for supporting your community!

Fitzgerald Subaru of Rockville Delivers Love in Action at Stepping Stones Shelter - David P.

At Fitzgerald Subaru, we believe love is more than a word—it's action. Together with Subaru of North America, our team was proud to donate 600+ pairs of socks to Stepping Stones Shelter in Rockville, an organization that has been offering hope since 1982. Socks are one of the most requested (and least donated) items for individuals experiencing homelessness, and this small act can make a big difference during the coldest months of the year. Moments like this remind us why the Subaru Love Promise matters—because being part of a community means showing up, lending a hand, and helping our neighbors take their next step forward. We're honored to support Stepping Stones Shelter and grateful for the opportunity to serve our Rockville community. 💫 #SubaruLovePromise #SubaruLovesToHelp #CommunityStrong #LoveInAction #FitzgeraldSubaru

Supporting the Community Through Sportsmanship - David P.

Our support of the Olney Terps youth football team during the 2025 season reflects our unwavering commitment to safety, opportunity, and community. By providing essential protective equipment, we help ensure every young athlete can step onto the field with confidence, shielded from preventable injuries and backed by the peace of mind their families deserve. Supplying team uniforms does more than outfit a roster—it builds unity, pride, and a sense of belonging. It guarantees that every child, regardless of financial circumstance, can represent their team with dignity and confidence. And by covering or assisting with team dues, we help remove financial barriers that too often stand between children and the experiences that help shape their future. Together, these efforts create more than a football season—they build an inclusive, uplifting environment where young athletes can learn, grow, and thrive both on and off the field. At Fitzgerald Subaru, we believe in fostering safety, opportunity, and the power of community—because caring for our kids today strengthens all of us tomorrow. Fitzgerald Subaru Loves Safety. Fitzgerald Subaru Loves Community.

Barbara's Gingerbread Bash - Aimee O.

On Saturday, December 9, more than 400 people attended Barbara’s Gingerbread Bash presented by Fitzgerald Auto Malls Subaru of Rockville at Art Works Now in Hyattsville, MD. This 11th annual event was eagerly anticipated by the community and the free ticket reservations “sold” out in just over two hours. Over the course of five hours on December 9, hundreds of families came into the Art Works Now main studio, which was decorated like a winter candy land, and built their gingerbread house creations with graham crackers, icing, and more candy than you can imagine! As the presenting sponsor, Subaru helped bring an incredible amount of JOY to hundreds of families from Prince George’s County, Northeast Washington, DC, and the region. After finishing their sweet and sticky creations, participants were directed to the Art Works Now courtyard where they were greeted by Subaru ambassadors giving away plush Subaru dogs, pencils, and other goodies. Participants also got to meet “Gingy” the gingerbread person, enjoy hot cocoa, and take photos. As a small non-profit organization, Art Works Now depends on private donations to be able to offer community events such as Barbara’s Gingerbread Bash. As the presenting sponsor, Subara ensured that Art Works Now was able to offer this tradition again in 2023. Who joined us at Barbara’s Gingerbread Bash? Everyone! Parents attended with little kids, teens attended with groups of friends, and several older adults came by themselves or with a partner to feel like a kid again.
