The 2021 Subaru Forester in Rockville MD

Explore the 2021 Subaru Forester at Fitzgerald Subaru

These days, the Subaru Forester continues to be a unique choice in a fiercely competitive compact crossover market. It is the only one with standard all-wheel drive to maximize traction performance, especially on slippery surfaces, and it is powered by a flat-four engine. Split into five trim levels-base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring-the Forester, in addition to light off-road ability, provides plenty of interior space, good economy ratings, and user-friendly amenities. Whether you're driving in Washington DC or Silver Spring, you can trust the Subaru Forester will offer a reliable experience.

Performance

The flat-four engine that the Subaru Forester uses these days displaces 2.5 liters and has an output of 182 horsepower, which is more than enough for city or everyday driving. The continuously variable transmission to which the engine is pinned operates smoothly, and its lack of the energy-consuming gear-shifting mechanism found on traditional transmissions makes the Forester more fuel-efficient than most of its peers.

You can get an EPA-estimated 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway on this ride. Because of its standard all-wheel drive, skidding is barely an issue on the Forester. In addition, if you go with the Premium model or higher, Subaru adds hill descent control for a safe drive down without the need for applying the brakes, as well as X-Mode for optimal traction.

Comfort & Convenience

Headed by a 6.5-inch touchscreen, the Subaru Forester's Starlink multimedia system combines features such as four speakers, an AM/FM radio tuner with HD Radio technology, a single-disc CD player, Bluetooth hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, two USB ports and an audio jack for playing media from or charging portable devices, and trial subscriptions to SiriusXM Radio and SiriusXM Travel Link. At the Premium trim level, the Starlink system is boosted with two additional speakers, as well as a Wi-Fi hotspot for 4G LTE Internet access. Access and engine starting are made more convenient with the addition of proximity keyless entry and push-button engine start, respectively.

The Sport model gains two charging-only USB ports in the rear, and the monochromatic multifunction display is replaced by a color one. The Limited trim level gains a power liftgate, automatic climate controls added on the front passenger side in addition to the driver's, and an 8-inch touchscreen that replaces the standard 6.5-inch. Entertainment reaches its Forester height at the Touring trim level, which is the only model with a trial subscription to SiriusXM Traffic, a navigation system, and a nine-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

Safety

For driver safety aid, Subaru provides the EyeSight suite, which consists of adaptive cruise control, sway warning, pre-collision braking and throttle management, lane departure warning, and lane centering assist. Also standard for driver assistance is a rearview camera for executing safe low-speed maneuvers, and seven airbags are present for crash protection. For a boost in driver assistance, go with at least the Sport, which introduces automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alert, and lane change assist. For two more driver safety aids-namely, reverse automatic braking and a distraction mitigation system-go with the range-topping Touring.

Interior

The Subaru Forester seats up to five people with its two cloth-trimmed rows. The Premium model gets a leather-wrapped steering wheel and 10-way power adjustability on the driver's seat. At the Limited trim level, the Subaru Forester gains leather seat trim. Rear-seat heating, steering-wheel heating, and eight-way power adjustability on the front passenger seat are exclusive to the Touring. If you want sport front seats with orange contrast stitching, go with the Sport, which is the only model that has them.
